In an emergency, the necessity of kitchen utensils is easily overlooked. Many survival foods are stored in cans, but without a can opener this food is completely useless. Without pots and pans, water cannot be boiled. This eliminates a guaranteed potable source of water or water for preparation of some survival foods that require rehydration. It is difficult to eat or prepare many foods, like soup or rice, without aid of a fork, knife, or spoon. Cooking utensils are underappreciated in day-to-day living, but these tools are just as essential in your emergency stock as food or water.
